Alpha Phi Omega is a national co-ed community service fraternity. For over seventy-five years, we have set the standard for college campus-based volunteerism. Our goal is not only to perform service but also to raise awareness of the importance of service and the opportunities for service both on campus and in the community. We also strive to develop a spirit of fellowship among our members. Brothers of Alpha Phi Omega develop a strong sense of community through participation in both service projects and social activities.
The Gamma Sigma chapter at the University of Chicago was re-founded in 1997 and has since established itself as one of the pre-eminent chapters in section 51. We have been recognized and rewarded for our diligence and consistent service to the community of south side Chicago. As a community service organization at one of the premier academic institutions in the nation, Gamma Sigma tries to encourage its members to be cognizant that while developing the life of the mind is a noble ideal, it is equally valuable to remain mindful of the real world.
